For the record, I went and bought a Galaxy Note5! I love it and it is the newest (usable) Note on the market right now.  While the Note7 is having a bad run, the other Galaxy products are still great for now.  We will see if the Google Pixel blows them out of the water, but that remains to be seen.

The Transportation Department has issued an emergency order banning travelers and flight teams from bringing Samsung Galaxy Note7 cell phones on carrier flights in light of reports of the telephones bursting into flames.

The request became effective Saturday at twelve eastern time.  It says the phone may not be carried on board or packed in checked bags on flights to and from the United States or within the country. The phones also can’t be shipped as air cargo.

Passengers who attempt to travel with the phones will have the phones confiscated and may face fines.  Samsung recalled more than 2.5 million of the smartphones and discontinued the product earlier this week.

Numerous fires have been reported, including one on a Southwest Airlines flight earlier this month and several others.
